Phases of the crescent and full moon are propitious for preparations or 'preparos' of Vegetal.

The term "hallucinogen" is the current term used to classify Hoasca tea (Vegetal), due to its effect, in studies of ethnobotany. In scientific realms, the word signifies "a substance that produces false perceptions of reality" and has its origin in the pharmacological classification of psychoactive substances that effect emotion and thought.

For some researchers, the classification of Hoasca tea as a "hallucinogen" is imprecise because it does not, as the term implies, bring about the loss of contact with reality. On the contrary, Hoasca brings an amplified degree of perception that permits the comprehension of reality with greater clarity and transcendence.

Moreover, the evidence that its responsible use has been of proven importance in the process of personal development, in all senses - physical, mental, moral and intellectual - for a great number of adepts, contributes to a new perception of Hoasca tea in scientific circles.

In this sense, researchers in the area of ethnobotany have proposed the classification of the Vegetal as an "entheogen", a substance that generates an experience of contact with the divine causing a general sensation of coming closer to the Sacred and facilitating self-knowledge and the betterment of the human being.
